30 Dec Goal Setting in the New Year
Goal setting is a very topical issue these days as everyone is striving to achieve their goals. But sometimes we forget exactly what we are striving for and we also forget where we started from!.
The first thing we need to do is to be specific with our goals. Rather than the usual “I want to lose weight” or “I’d love to get fit” we need to state exactly what it is we want to do as these are just wishes or vague notions of goals. Getting specific means making the goal as measurable as possible and putting a timeframe on it. So instead of saying “I want to lose weight” set a goal by writing down “By 26th October 2016, I want to lose 20 pounds to be at a weight of 9 stone.” That’s a clear, measurable goal. By writing it down, makes it more real and it is 1000 times more likely for us to achieve our goals if we write them down and keep them in a place that we can see them.
When it comes to achieving our goals, there is only one place that we can start from and that’s where we are right now. The best time to plant a tree would have been 20 years ago, the next best time is now!! Start from now where you are with what you have. The most amazing successes have been achieved by starting with a single thought. Sometimes it takes a massive action or a big push to get started. But the good thing about this is that the massive action taken can create huge momentum which lasts for a long time. Many of our clients see coming to bootcamp as a massive action, and it can have that lasting effect that has in some cases, changed lives or created a new lease of life. This is so powerful to watch unfold.
There are particular habits that we need to have to achieve our goals, we’ll discuss these in another blog post. In summary, when it comes to goal setting, set out what you want to do, be as specific and descriptive as you can, and start now with whatever you have or wherever you are. This is your time!!
Happy New Year, and have a prosperous 2017!
